A shared 11+ entrance exam used by 6 grammar schools, administered by GL Assessment, testing Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics. Two GL Assessment papers testing three components (VR, NVR, Maths). Each component max 141, total max 423. Part of Trafford Grammar School Consortium with Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Sale Grammar School, and Stretford Grammar School. School motto from William of Wykeham shared with New College Oxford and Winchester College. In-year assessments conducted once per term for candidates who haven't sat entrance examination or were unsuccessful.

Traffic in the Urmston area is always incredibly busy on Open Evening. Where possible recommend walking or using public transport. If travelling by car, advisable to park at either Golden Hill Park Car Park (M41 5AT) or for free at Eden Square Shopping Centre (M41 0NA). Both are only a short walk to school.
